Led by Shane Victorino, the Dodgers defeated the Pirates Monday night by a score of 5-4. Victorino hit his 10th home run of the season, a two-run line drive in the top of the fifth off of Pirates starter Jeff Karstens, and finished the night with two runs and three RBI. Matt Kemp also contributed to the cause, with a run and an RBI, and Juan Rivera added a bases-loaded, pinch-hit, run-scoring single as well.
The Pirates cut the deficit to one in the 8th inning after Garrett Jones -- who led the way for the Pirates with three RBI -- plated Andrew McCutchen on a double and then came around to score on a single by Michael McKenry. However, they were unable to complete the comeback and went down in order at the hands of Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen in the ninth. It was Jansen's 24th save of the year.
Aaron Harang gets the win for the Dodgers, after giving up only two runs on five hits in six innings of work. His record improves to 8-7. Karstens gets the loss after allowing four runs in seven innings, dropping his record to 4-3.
