Steelers Waive John Clay

The Steelers have waived reserve running back John Clay after the second-year player was injured.

Clay hadn't played since suffering an injury in the first preseason game and was reported cut last Tuesday, but has now reached an injury settlement with the Steelers and is free to sign elsewhere. The Steelers had signed Jason Ford to replace Clay, and with Rashard Mendenhall back and with Jonathan Dwyer and Chris Rainey providing solid running back depth behind Issac Redman, the Steelers aren't exactly strapped for ballcarriers

Clay starred at Wisconsin, but might have misjudged an early jump to the NFL and was undrafted, signing with the Steelers before 2011 training camp. He scored a touchdown on his first NFL carry in Week 15 after being activated from the practice squad and had 41 yards rushing on ten carries for Pittsburgh last year.
