Pittsburgh Steelers Cut Ties With Special Teams Coach Al Everest

The Pittsburgh Steelers fired special teams coordinator Al Everest on Thursday. The Steelers promoted assistant special teams coach Amos Jones to replace Everest. Jones has been with the the Steelers as a special teams assistant coach since 2007.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said about Everest in a statement:

"We are continually evaluating our coaching staff and support staff, and we have decided to go in a different direction with respect to the coaching of our special teams," head coach Mike Tomlin said. "I want to thank Al for his contributions and efforts, and I wish him well in the future."

Everest had been with the Steelers as the special teams coordinator since 2010. The Steelers ranked 17th in kickoff returns, 21st in punt returns and 25th in net punting in the NFL last season.
