The Pittsburgh Pirates (67-57) look to snap a three-game losing streak and thrust themselves back into the NL Wild Card picture when they begin their three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers (57-66) on Friday at PNC Park. Easier said than done, as the Brewers are hot coming off a four-game win streak.
The Pirates hold a scant half-game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers for the Wild Card, and are one game and 3.5 games back from the St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves, respectively.
Wandy Rodriguez (8-12, 4.00 ERA) will take the mound for the Pirates on Friday. He enters the game having lost a career-high four consecutive starts, and has a 5.06 ERA in his five appearances since being acquired from the Houston Astros in July. Rodriguez will face the Brewers' Michael Fiers, who is also looking to put recent rocky outings out of mind. Fiers has posted a 15.43 ERA over his last two starts, both losses.
