Pittsburgh native Cassidy Krug was in position to become the first from the Steel City to medal in the 2012 Olympics, however a rough final dive caused her to settle for seventh in the 3m Springboard finals.
After four dives, Krug was in third place with an average of 72 points per dive, but her final dive scored just a 55.50, causing her to fall from the medals. Her overall score for the competition was 342.85.
China's dominance in the diving events continued, with Wu Minxia taking the gold with a score of 414.00 while He Zi took the silver. Laura Sanchez-Soto of Mexico took home the bronze.
American teammate Christina Loukas finished right behind Krug in eighth place with a score of 332.10.
