AP Top 25 Poll: West Virginia Enters College Football Rankings, Boise State Drops To No. 9

The AP Top 25 college football rankings have been released, and as expected, Oregon, Auburn and TCU are the top three in the poll. Boise State falls to No. 9 after its loss to Nevada. Three Big Ten teams, meanwhile, are in the top seven. Here’s a look at the top ten:

1. Oregon
2. Auburn
3. TCU
4. Wisconsin
5. Stanford
6. Ohio State
7. Michigan State
8. Arkansas
9. Boise State
10. Oklahoma

My predictions above assumed that Oklahoma State would beat Oklahoma, which didn’t happen. I also thought an upset of LSU by Arkansas would vault the Razorbacks ahead of Michigan State, which only has one really big win (against Wisconsin). Arkansas now has three victories over ranked teams and has only lost to Alabama and Auburn. But apparently voters were more convinced by the fact that Michigan State only has one loss.

LSU dropped to No. 11 after losing this week. West Virginia moved back into the top 25, to No. 23, after its Backyard Brawl win against Pitt, marking the first time in over a month that any local team has been a factor in the rankings. UConn, which stands in the way of WVU getting a BCS berth, is in the “others receiving votes” category.
