Penn State Teams Earn Exhibition Wins, Big Ten Championship

Penn State basketball unofficially opened its season on Sunday afternoon with a 66-52 win over East Stroudsburg at the Bryce Jordan Center behind 16 points from Talor Battle and 10 each from forward Billy Oliver and guard Tim Frazier.

Fresman Taran Buie made his Penn State debut with nine points and seven rebounds.

The Nittany Lions looked shaky on offense, coughing the ball up sixteen times and shooting 11-19 from the free throw line but played well defensively, holding the Warriors to 52 points and forcing 19 turnovers.

Penn State will open its season on Friday night against Lehigh at the BJC.

In other Penn State sports news Sunday, the Lady Lions beat Gannon 91-58, also in exhibition play. Alex Bentley and Mia Nickson has 18 points each and heralded recruit Maggie Lucas chipped in 14 in her Penn State debut. Additionally, the women's soccer team clinched its 13th Big Ten title on Sunday with a thrilling, 1-0 over Michigan at Jeffery Field thanks to an Ali Schaefer tally with 17 seconds left in the second extra period.
