Kevin Newsome Transferring From Penn State

In a move that will come as a surprise to almost no one, quarterback Kevin Newsome will seek transfer from the Penn State program according to Blue and White Illustrated.

Both Newsome and [Matt] McGloin took reps as [Robert] Bolden's backup through the first half of the season, but suffering through lingering shoulder and knee injuries, Newsome watched as McGloin took control of the backup position, and ultimately the starting job.

It remains to be seen at this time whether he has discussed his intentions with the Penn State coaching staff, or what his future plans will be.

Newsome was a long shot to ever see meaningful playing time at Penn State once McGloin caught on in the second half of the season. Between Bolden, McGloin and red-shirt freshman Paul Jones, the Nittany Lions are pretty well stocked at the quarterback position for years to come, so this is probably a good move for Newsome and the program.

He'll be missed on a personal level, though, as will his musical talents.

Best of luck, Kevin.
