Penn State vs. Purdue: Anthony Fera Gives Nittany Lions 10-6 Lead As First Half Ends

Matthew McGloin is back at quarterback for his second-straight drive. After a Silas Redd run, McGloin hits wide receiver Devon Smith for 15 yards and a first down. The ball was behind Smith, though, who hasn't gotten a clean ball from the quarterbacks yet today.

A couple of incompletions from McGloin on the next set of downs, and Penn State is forced to punt again. McGloin is now 2-7 for 22 yards.

Purdue quarterback Robert Marve goes up top to start the Boilermakers' ensuing offensive drive, hitting Ralph Bolden for 35 yards down the near sideline. Bolden fumbles, though, and Stephon Morris picks up the ball for Penn State and returns it to the Purdue 11-yardline. Officials decide to review the play, however, and rule the pass an incompletion.

After the fumble is overturned, Akeem Shavers picks up a first down on a nifty run to the far sideline. On the next set of downs, though, Marve is picked off by Penn State's Nathan Stupar on a pass across the middle. A personal foul on the return gives Penn State the ball on the Purdue 11-yardline and the Boilermakers gift-wrap a scoring opportunity for the Nittany Lions here at the end of the half.

On first down, Justin Brown is stopped for no gain, and on second down, tight end Andrew Szczerba drops what would have been a touchdown pass across the middle from McGloin. Anthony Fera comes on with :03 left in the half and hits a 29-yard field goal to give Penn State a 10-6 lead as the teams head to the locker room.

Penn State scoring summary: 3 plays, 12 yards (on the penalty), :14 time of possession.
