Penn State vs. Slippery Rock: Nittany Lions Top The Rock, 64-47

The Pat Chambers era of Penn State basketball is underway in Happy Valley.

The first-year head coach led the Nittany Lions to a 64-47 win against Slippery Rock in the team's only exhibition game of the season on Saturday at the Bryce Jordan Center while making his first appearance on the Penn State sideline.

Junior Tim Frazier led the Lions in scoring with 19 points. Fellow junior captain Billy Oliver and freshman guard Trey Lewis slipped into double figures as well with 16 and 10 points respectively.

Frazier, Oliver, senior captain Cammeron Woodyard, junior college transfer Matt Glover and redshirt freshman Jonathan Graham filled out the starting lineup for Penn State. Redshirt sophomore Sasa Borovnjak, walk-on Nick Colella and true freshman Ross Travis all saw time off the bench.

Penn State forced The Rock into 25 turnovers and won the rebounding margin 31-28 while shooting 43.6% from the field.

Highly touted forward prospects Patrick Ackerman and Peter Alexis did not play, nor did suspended sophomore guard Jermaine Marshall.

Penn State will tip off the regular season next Saturday against Hartford at the Bryce Jordan Center. If the Penn State Nebraska football kick is noon, the basketball game will take place after. If the football game is scheduled for 3:30, the basketball game will begin beforehand. Admission for Penn State-Hartford is free for all fans.

Stay tuned for more on the game here at SB Nation Pittsburgh.
