Penn State Coaching Search: David Joyner Dismisses Chris Petersen, Mike Munchak Rumors

Today in "Reasons Why You're Not Allowed To Use Wikipedia For Research," acting Penn State athletic director David Joyner denied a pair of rumors about Boise State coach Chris Petersen and Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak to David Jones of the Harrisburg Patriot-News.

I saw the Twitter explosion about Boise State coach Chris Petersen being posted as the new coach on Wikipedia and heard another hot rumor that Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak would be announced soon, maybe as early as Sunday. Joyner claims absolutely no truth to either and actually laughed about both when told. That's what I know. At this point, I have to believe Joyner is telling the truth. No hard evidence otherwise.

Petersen's name has been getting a lot of play after the Allentown Morning Call's Mark Wogenrich reported last week that the Broncos coach is high on Penn State's list. It would appear, and I can't verify this because I saw no such thing, that his Wikipeida page was edited at some point on Thursday to reflect that he'd been hired by Penn State. Obviously, that's a severe case of gun-jumping at the absolute best.

Munchak, a former offensive lineman for Penn State, has been a popular choice among message board types, though there hasn't been much hard reporting to tie him to the job.
