Early on Friday, John Saraceno of USA Today reported that Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach and McKees Rocks native Tom Clements was set to interview for Penn State's vacant head coaching position by phone that day.

A report from ESPN 540 AM in Milwaukee, however, disputes that report.

According to an NFL source, Clements did not in fact interview for the position, as USA Today reported earlier in the day.

...

But the source said that Clements was not interviewed, and ESPN’s Chris Mortensen spoke to what he called "a source close to Clements" who said the same thing. "There is no telephone interview or conversation that is scheduled between Tom and Penn State, there never has been one scheduled, nor is there anything scheduled in the foreseeable future," the source told Mortensen.

As Bob Cohn and Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported at the time, Clements applied for the Penn State job more than a week ago. His Packers team is 13-0 and ranked No. 3 in the NFL in passing yardage per game heading into their game Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. His quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, has thrown for 4,125 yards and 39 touchdowns against just six interceptions so far this season, putting him square in the race for league MVP honors.
