2011 NCAA Tournament: Loss To Wisconsin Potentially Devastating For Penn State

New, 1 comment

The Nittany Lions were on the bubble of the NCAA tournament before their loss to Wisconsin Sunday, and were probably even on the outside looking in. With only three games remaining (including two very tough ones against Ohio State and Minnesota), the loss to Wisconsin means it will be very tough for the Nittany Lions to get in. If they reel off three straight wins, it could still happen, but that will be a long shot. Here’s Blogging The Bracket two days ago (before the Wisconsin game):

Penn State’s issues are twofold, no quality non-conference wins and just a single road victory (Indiana) on the profile. While the Nittany Lions have done a respectable job in the Big Ten, they’ve struggled of late, which isn’t good considering the schedule they have ahead of them. A sweep at the hands of Michigan isn’t helpful, and a loss at Michigan State last Thursday looked to have booked their NIT ticket. However, a win over Minnesota Thursday night gave the Nittany Lions a modicum of hope, as they still must visit Madison, play the Gophers in the Twin Cities, and head to Ohio State.

With the Wisconsin game behind them, the Nittany Lions are now 14-12, and just 7-8 in-conference.
