Lady Lions Beat Illinois 79-64, Will Play For Big Ten Tournament Title

Maggie Lucs is only a freshman, but on Saturday evening, she once again showed Penn State fans how dominant she can be.

The Big Ten Freshman and Sixth Player of the Year led Penn State with 23 points as Penn State defeated Illinois 79-64 in the Big Ten Tournament semfinals. The Lady Lions will face either Michigan State or Ohio State Sunday afternoon at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for the league's automatic NCAA Tournament berth.

Lucas shot 7-14 from the field on the evening, including 5-9 from 3-point territory. Teammate Julie Trogele added 20 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Lions, and Alex Bentley had 11 points and three assists.

Penn State finished the regular season on a 2-3 slide, but defeated Purdue on Friday morning before their win against Illinois on Saturday, putting the Lady Lions in their first title game since 2004 and offering them their first chance to win the tournament for the first time since 1996.
