The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ron Musselman is reporting an NFL source has told the newspaper that New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien will interview for Penn State's vacant head coaching position. Musselman's report comes less than two hours after USA Today's Erick Smith offered a similar report.
Musselman also reports Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements is still expected to be interviewed this week.
If there's a trend emerging among reported candidates for the job, it's NFL experience. In addition to O'Brien and Clements, San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman says he has talked to Penn State about the job, and the committee has shown widely reported interest in Tennessee Titans head coach and Penn State alumnus Mike Munchak. Will the field of pro coaches connected to the Penn State job continue to grow? It's certainly something to monitor.
