Ted Roof To Be Named Penn State's Defensive Coordinator, According To Report

As new Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien continues to fill out his staff, it appears he has found a defensive coordinator as the Big Ten Network's Tom Dienhart tweets that Central Florida's Ted Roof will be taking the job.

Roof was the defensive coordinator with the Knights this season after spending three seasons in the same position at Auburn, winning the 2010 national title with the Tigers. The championship hides the warts of that defense, however, that finished No. 8 in the SEC in scoring defense and No. 9 in yards allowed per game at 362.2.

Roof was the head coach of a Duke staff that O'Brien worked for in 2005 and 2006. In parts of five seasons with the Blue Devils, Roof went 6-45. In his career, he's also coached as an assistant at Alabama, West Georgia, Massachusetts, Western Carolina, Georgia Tech, Louisville and Minnesota. In addition to their time together at Duke, Roof and O'Brien were on the same staff together at Georgia Tech, so clearly, this hire has some history behind it.

For the latest on Penn State's hire of Bill O'Brien, be sure to stay tuned to SB Nation Pittsburgh.
