The lawyer of former Penn St. Nittany Lions defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky confirmed Monday that his client will address the judge and try to proclaim his innocence before his sentencing on 45 counts of child sexual abuse, the Associated Press' Mark Scolforo is reporting.
On Tuesday, Sandusky will attend his sentencing hearing in Bellefote, PA. It's expected no one will speak on Sandusky's behalf, but letters from Sandusky's wife, Dottie, and others have been submitted to Judge John Cleland.
According to the report, sentencing will begin with a hearing to determine if Sandusky qualifies as a sexually violent predator, after that the 68-year-old Sandusky will be sentenced to a term that will likely force him to spend the rest of his life in prison.
In June, the former Nittnay Lion defensive coordinator was convicted of abusing 10 boys over a 15-year period. Some of those attacks occurred at the Penn State football team's athletic facilities.
