Penn State football recruiting: Jake Waters nears decision

The Nittany Lions are waiting on a big decision from Jake Waters.

The Penn State Nittany Lions are coming off an improbably good season in their first year under new head coach Bill O'Brien. Now, they hope to get the recruitment period of the offseason going in fine fashion with the potential addition of Jake Waters, seen by many experts as the best junior college quarterback in the country.

Reportedly, Waters has narrowed his choices to Penn State and the Kansas State Wildcats. The decision is said to be coming on Thursday.

As pointed out over at Black Shoe Diaries, there are good reasons for Waters to attend either school. One involves football, the other, not so much:

There's probably no question that Penn State would be the best place for him to develop as a quarterback after looking at the job O'Brien and quarterbacks coach Charlie Fisher did with Matt McGloin this past year, but there is one thing that could overcome that and lure Waters to Manhattan.

His girlfriend is currently a student at Kansas State and they get kinda mushy on Twitter at times (you can check for yourselves if you're that interested), so it would be no surprise and not a completely bad thing if a woman led Waters to the breadbasket of America to live out the rest of his college career.

It would be a nice boost for Penn State if it could get Waters to join the program. While it's not a cinch by any stretch that Waters would start, consider his numbers this past year at Western Iowa: 3,501 yards with 39 touchdowns and three interceptions.
