First Danny O'Brien, now this. West Virginia high school wide receiver Ryan Switzer, who both Penn State and West Virginia had been pursuing, will instead head to the University of North Carolina.
↵↵↵Switzer is expected to make his announcement official on Thursday. Prior to Switzer's reported commitment, PSU had been considered a favorite for his services ...
↵Switzer, a 5-9, 165-pound running back at George Washington High school, rushed for more than 2,700 yards and 45 touchdowns as a junior. He projects as a slot receiver in college.
↵
That's a tough blow for Penn State.
↵Switzer cited his education as a big reason for picking UNC over WVU in particular in addressing a question about possible complaints that a West Virginia native like himself should have stayed in the Mountain State.
↵↵↵"It's not that big of a deal. It's not like I'm the next LeBron James or anything. That's definitely not me. But if people sit down and do a little research on North Carolina and who they're bringing in and how good a degree from Chapel Hill is ... first and foremost I'm going there to get an education that's paid for."
↵
That quote is likely to make Mountaineers fans grit their teeth a bit more.
↵In addition to UNC, PSU and WVU, Switzer's list of schools also included Wake Forest and Duke. At 5-foot-9, Switzer looks likely to be a slot receiver at the college level, the Patriot-News notes. Rivals rates him as a three-star recruit.
