Penn State Football: Matt McGloin To Be Starting Quarterback

Unsurprisingly, Bill O'Brien says Matt McGloin will start at quarterback.

To the surprise of what I assume will be very few, Matt McGloin has been named Penn State football's starting quarterback.

Bill O'Brien has announced senior Matt McGloin as #PennState's starting quarterback

We noted in mid-May some work from the Harrisburg Patriot-News that argued that McGloin probably had the inside track on the job, due to his experience, (admittedly very modest) track record, and changes to the Penn State offense.

Also, around the same time, O'Brien said he planned to name his starting quarterback soon. The fact that he planned to name his starting quarterback before training camp started was a further indication that McGloin would be the guy, given Rob Bolden's struggles the past two seasons and Paul Jones' inexperience.

Anyway, it's obviously not clear that McGloin will be the quarterback the entire season, but it looks like he's the man right now. McGloin currently looks like a more dynamic option than Bolden, at least, but if McGloin struggles, Bolden or Jones will be ready to take his place.
