Pitt TE Mike Cruz was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week by the Nassau County Sports Commission. The honor is named after NFL Hall of Famer John Mackey.
↵Cruz had only two receptions for 14 yards against Rutgers last weekend, but both catches went for touchdowns.
↵He's been off to a slow start and hasn't come close to matching the production of Dorin Dickerson last season, but Dickerson turned into an NFL draft pick and was one of the best tight ends in the country. Cruz is only a sophomore and, as evidenced by the passes thrown his way in the red zone during the Rutgers game, could be inching closer to becoming one of Tino Sunseri's favorite targets.
