Pitt easily defeated Northwood University, 104-62, in its season opening exhibition basketball game.
↵The Panthers held a large lead throughout and started the game on a 23-0 run as Northwood failed to score until almost midway through the first half.
↵Pitt was led by Ashton Gibbs' 25 points and Brad Wanamaker's 18. The biggest surprise may have been provided by true freshman J.J. Moore. Moore scored inside and outside on his way to 17 points in only 17 minutes of play. He was a four-star recruit and the eighth-best SF in the nation as rated by Scout. Moore could be the only freshman to crack Pitt's deep rotation this season.
↵Gilbert Brown, Nasir Robinson, and Lamar Patterson did not suit up due to injuries. Brown and Patterson are expected to be back for the regular season opener next Monday vs. Rhode Island while Robinson will be out for about 3-6 weeks.
↵Pitt's next exhibition will be on Thursday vs. IUP.
