Pitt and WVU were off today, but there were two games in a quiet week for the Big East conference. South Florida (5-3, 2-2) took down Rutgers (4-4, 1-2) in a squeaker on Wednesday. Today, Louisville (5-4, 2-2) knocked off Syracuse (6-3, 3-2). Pitt (5-3, 3-0) is thus out to a big lead in the conference, as Syracuse, its only serious challenger, dropped a full game back. The rest of Pitt's schedule includes games against UConn, South Florida, WVU and Cincinnati. With none of those teams looking strong and with a big cushion, Pitt should be feeling very comfortable. The loss this week by Syracuse is huge. It could turn out that Pitt could have two conference losses in their four games and still win the conference title.
