It looked bad at the game and the result is equally bad - Dan Mason's injury in the Miami game will cause him to miss the rest of the season:
↵↵↵Mason was injured in the third quarter of Thursday's 31-3 loss to Miami. Mason, a Penn Hills product, will be eligible for medical redshirt. He sustained a dislocated right knee cap and torn ligaments. He remained in the hospital as of Monday morning.

This is bad news for Pitt, obviously, but something not completely unexpected. His injury looked downright awful and he will have surgery shortly. Pitt has a capable backup in Max Gruder, who had been recently named the starter due to Mason's involvement in the Jason Douglas DUI incident. Still, Mason will miss out on a year of development and it's unknown if he'll be able to receive a medical redshirt at this time.
