Pitt ranks No. 2 in the latest set of AP college basketball rankings, out today. This is no surprise since, as I wrote a couple days ago, Pitt knocked off one of the teams above it (Syracuse), and another (Kansas) lost as well. Ohio State is the consensus No. 1 right now, but Pitt is right behind them, followed by Duke (whose loss to Florida State a couple weeks ago still haunts it), undefeated San Diego State (which has a huge matchup against No. 9 BYU this week), and UConn (which has recent wins against top teams Villanova and Texas).
BYU, by the way, is tied with Syracuse for the No. 9 spot. So here’s the top ten for this week:
1. Ohio State
2. Pitt
3. Duke
4. San Diego State
5. UConn
6. Kansas
7. Texas
8. Villanova
9. (tie) BYU
9. (tie) Syracuse
West Virginia, which was near the bottom of the top 25 last week, falls out of the rankings after losing to Marshall last week.
