Pitt football defensive coordinator Phil Bennett wasn't expected to stick around with a new head coach coming in. We all knew Bennett was going somewhere ... we just didn't know where.
↵That all has apparently changed as Bennett looks to be headed to Baylor:
Yes, the move is essentially a lateral one as Bennett will become their defensive coordinator. But going to Baylor makes sense for several different reasons. Bennett is a Texas native, has a home there, is a Texas A&M graduate, and previously was an assistant at both Texas A&M and TCU. He was also the head coach at Southern Methodist University, so not only does he have plenty of ties there, he's recruited the area before and should be able to help significantly in that area.
Bennett is sticking around for tomorrow's game obviously and will be serving as the team's head coach in the BBVA Compass Bowl Game against Kentucky.
↵Hard to say Bennett wasn't a key for Pitt the past few weeks. Since Dave Wannstedt was forced to resign, he's been one of the few stabilizing forces for players.
