The college basketball rankings were released on Monday and after winning home contests against Albany and Rider over the weekend, Pitt moved up to No. 9 in both polls. The reason for the move up was largely due to Vanderbilt (previously No. 7) being upset by Cleveland State. As a result, the Commodores dropped to No. 18 in the AP Top 25 and No. 20 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
↵The Panthers also jumped one spot ahead of Memphis, who has yet to play a game, in the ESPN/USA Today poll. With a slightly down non-conference schedule, Pitt's first true test might not come until the City Game against Duquesne on November 30th or a road game at Tennessee on December 3rd.
↵Other Big East teams in the Top 25 are the UConn Huskies, Syracuse Orange, Louisville Cardinals, Cincinnati Bearcats, and Marquette Golden Eagles. All of those teams are undefeated.
↵The North Carolina Tarheels remained a near-consensus No. 1 pick in both polls.
