Tulane head coach Bob Toledo resigned in mid-October after Tulane was blown out by Tulsa, Duke, Army and UTEP. Whoever takes over at Tulane will probably have a rough go, as Peter Finney at the Times-Picayune points out. The question is whether the program will be bringing on even more trouble for itself by hiring Haywood, who, you'll recall, left Pitt almost immediately after being hired, as he was arrested for felony domestic violence on New Year's Eve. (The Panthers ended up hiring Todd Graham.)

Haywood had previously coached as Miami (OH), where he helped turn around a team that went 1-11 in his first season. It appears that Tulane wants to see whether his talent might be able to somehow overcome his sketchy personal history.
