The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Paul Zeise has been all over the reporting on Pitt's coaching search to replace Todd Graham and Tuesday night he offered some new details on the university's quest.
After writing that Wisconsin offensive coordinator Paul Chryst impressed in his interview with Pitt officials, he said Florida International head coach Mario Cristobal "appears to be the first guy who is going to get an offer" but added a caveat.
I have a number of people around Cristobal telling me he wants the job, it is the moving Pittsburgh part he is not so sure about and that while a raise in the area of $1 million per year can go a long way towards easing some of those concerns, it may not be enough. By now we've all read the stories about him in Miami, rebuilding that program, how much he and his wife are a part of that community and everything else so there is no need to rehash all that.
And so, it appears the cat is not in the bag with Cristobal quite yet, at least from Zeise's vantage points.
Cristobal's Florida International squad fell 20-10 against Marshall in Tuesday night's Beef O'Brady's bowl to end its season. The Golden Panthers managed 251 yards of offense against the Thundering Herd, though they limited their opponents to 310 yards themselves.
