Pitt got some good news when they found out they will be headed to the BBVA Compass Bowl on Sunday, but also found out that they'll need to replace three key coaches while preparing for the game.
↵Todd Graham lost assistants Calvin Magee (co-offensive coordinator and running backs coach), Tony Dews (tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator), and Tony Gibson (secondary coach), who left to join Rich Rodriguez' staff in Arizona where he was recently hired. The trio will be leaving before Pitt's bowl game in January.
↵Typically, it might be expected that coaches would remain on staff through a bowl game, but Rodriguez who is new in Arizona himself likely wants to get a big jump on recruiting. As a result, Pitt is now going to be scrambling to not only get ready for a bowl game, but to quickly replace the coaches in order to prepare for their final recruiting push.
↵The biggest blow may be the loss of Magee, who's viewed as an excellent offensive coach. Pitt's offense didn't exactly produce as expected this season, but it was hard to judge Magee and Todd Graham on this season because, among other things, there were several key injuries to the unit this season.
