Ashton Gibbs Preparing To Return From Injury

Pitt is expecting the return of starting guard Ashton Gibbs to the basketball team this week. After sitting out the past two games, Pitt still found ways to win road games against West Virginia and Villanova. But the offense has sputtered a bit and his offense has been missed. Over the past two games that Gibbs has missed, Pitt has been held to a season-low 23 points in the first half of each contest.

The original timetable for Gibbs' return was 10-14 days, but his mother said he could have played this past Saturday against in the big game against the Wildcats:

Jacqui Gibbs, Ashton’s mother, said her son was ready to play Saturday.

"He wants to play tonight [at Villanova] because it’s such a big game," she said Saturday by phone. "He says he feels fine but they are just being cautious."

Barring the injury continuing to linger, Gibbs should return either Wednesday against South Florida or Saturday against St. John's. Pitt should be fine without him at home against South Florida, but it would be nice to get him back in time for the road game against a pretty good St. John's team.
