Bracketology 2011: Penn State Near Bubble

The Penn State Nittany Lions appear to be edging closer to an NCAA Tournament bid with their low-score win over Wisconsin yesterday. Chris Dobbertean’s new bracketology post on SBNation.com now has them just two spots out of March Madness:

Penn State and Memphis are the only two teams in the First Eight Out who control their own fates, everyone else must sit and wait.

Translation: With a win over Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament today, the Nittany Lions can edge closer, and perhaps force their way in. Of course, if the Nittany Lions win that game and the Big Ten Championship against either Ohio State or Michigan (admittedly a tall order if Ohio State wins today), they’ll get an automatic bid as Big Ten champs anyway, so it doesn’t matter. Either way, Penn State’s late-season wins against Minnesota, Indiana and Wisconsin have them extremely close to the bubble.
