Jamie Dixon / Tennessee Rumors Officially Done

Almost as quick as the rumors of Tennessee wanting Pitt coach Jamie Dixon got started, they're over.

As I wrote last week over at Cardiac Hill, Tennessee reportedly had Jamie Dixon and several other coaches such as Villanova's Jay Wright on their wish list according to a report by GoVolsXtra.com. Tennessee's coaching search is now over with the hiring of Missouri State's Cuonzo Martin:

"Cuonzo is among the most promising young coaches in the game, and we are excited about the coaching ability, toughness and energy that he brings to our program," said Tennessee AD Mike Hamilton.

Missouri State went 11-20 games in its first year under Martin in 2008-09, improved to 24-12 the next year, and this season won the Missouri Valley Conference regular season title with a 26-9 record.

I never thought Dixon could have possibly been a serious candidate for the Vols' opening. He doesn't have any ties there and the job would been a step down from the Pitt job.
