Pitt Recruit Khem Birch Falls Short In McDonald's All-American Dunk Contest

Khem Birch, Pitt's highly-touted 2011-12 recruit, appeared in the McDonald's All-American dunk contest but failed to make a big impact.

Birch was one of eight dunkers, but was perhaps already at a disadvantage because of his 6-foot-9 frame. It didn't help matters when he repeatedly flubbed a dunk attempt with a toss off the backboard. With time on the clock winding down, Birch settled for a much tamer version of the dunk and only drew a score of 50 - one of the lowest of the night.

↵

He followed that dunk up with a slightly better one where a teammate lobbed a pass off the side of the backboard. Birch showed his athleticism catching and dunking the ball as the pass was off-target. But even that dunk took a few attempts as Birch couldn't throw down the first two.

His total score of 107 was good for seventh place on the night. It was good to see him in the contest, but I look forward to seeing what he can do in game action on Wednesday night.
