Khem Birch, Pitt's highly-touted 2011-12 recruit, appeared in the McDonald's All-American dunk contest but failed to make a big impact.
↵Birch was one of eight dunkers, but was perhaps already at a disadvantage because of his 6-foot-9 frame. It didn't help matters when he repeatedly flubbed a dunk attempt with a toss off the backboard. With time on the clock winding down, Birch settled for a much tamer version of the dunk and only drew a score of 50 - one of the lowest of the night.
↵He followed that dunk up with a slightly better one where a teammate lobbed a pass off the side of the backboard. Birch showed his athleticism catching and dunking the ball as the pass was off-target. But even that dunk took a few attempts as Birch couldn't throw down the first two.
↵His total score of 107 was good for seventh place on the night. It was good to see him in the contest, but I look forward to seeing what he can do in game action on Wednesday night.
