Khem Birch Has Modest Night In Greentree Summer League Debut

The Greentree Summer League officially kicked off Monday night and lots of eyes were on Pitt freshman, Khem Birch. While it's hard to say Birch disappointed (he was a monster on the defensive end with eight blocks), he probably didn't have the kind of night many had hoped for and his team ended up with a losing effort.

Birch ended his game with a modest four points and three rebounds and was thoroughly outplayed by counterpart, Dante Taylor, who contributed to his winning team with 12 points and 16 boards.

A few things to keep in mind are that this was his first game against teammates and he was self-admittedly a bit nervous. Birch also said he hadn't played much in the last few weeks and knows he still needs to get in better shape for the season:

"The big thing is I need to get my confidence up and work on my cardio and getting in shape, but I'm ready for this challenge, I've worked for it my whole life."

In all seriousness, Birch will be fine. He's a big-time defender and rebounder who will contribute to Pitt immediately this season.
