Pitt and Notre Dame have been squaring off pretty regularly and are in the midst of a long series right now. They've met the past few years, but Pitt AD Steve Pederson would like to make it an even longer-term deal:
↵↵↵One series that you can count on for the long term is the Notre Dame series. The current deal is like a 12-year deal but Pederson said he's had many discussions with Notre Dame and both sides want the series to continue "for a long, long time," he said. He anticipates the two schools signing another long term deal to play home-and-home when the current deal is closer to the end. "Both schools respect each other, we share many of the same values, we have great traditions of playing against each other, it is always a quality game - both sides agree it needs to continue," Pederson said.

The Notre Dame game the past few years has given fans a quality opponent to look forward to on a regular basis. The game isn't a tremendous rivalry, but it is turning into a nice annual contest.
↵And as I mentioned over at Cardiac Hill, Pederson should get credit for keeping this series alive. He's taken a lot of heat over firing Dave Wannstedt as well as the subsequent Mike Haywood hiring and if he gets criticism, he should also get praise for doing the right thing in this case. Notre Dame is a quality opponent and a sellout when they come to town.
