The Pittsburgh Panthers (11-7, 0-5 Big East) aim to end their six-game losing streak on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but will do so against the No. 1 Syracuse Orange (19-0, 6-0), the nation's most formidable opponent.
An upset loss against the Wagner Seahawks on Dec. 23 began Pitt's slide out of the Top 25; the Panthers were ranked No. 15 at the time of the Wagner loss. Their skid includes a loss to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in which they managed just 39 points and shot 21.1 percent from the field.
Syracuse, in contrast, has come out on top in each of its 19 games, with only two of the victories coming by fewer than 10 points. Most recently, the Orange defeated the Providence Friars, 78-55, behind 13 points from Kris Joseph. Syracuse held Providence to 35.1 percent shooting and forced 22 turnovers to win easily.
