The Bills have announced they have fired George Edwards as defensive coordinator and given the job to Dave Wannstedt.

Good for Wannstedt, who is a native of Baldwin and who also played for the Panthers (and was later a graduate assistant) before returning to coach them. The Panthers decided after a 7-5 season in 2010 that they wanted more than he could offer them, but after Michael Haywood's firing due to domestic violence charges, a 6-6 2011 season, and the sudden departure of Todd Graham (and his much-mocked "high-octane" style) to Arizona State, it now looks like the Wannstedt years will be remembered fondly in contrast.

Wannstedt was the Bills' linebackers coach in 2011, but now he's moving up.

Wannstedt had previously been the head coach of the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins.
