Two of the Big East's three undefeated teams took the field Saturday and came away with wins, putting more distance between themselves and the rest of the conference.
Five teams in the Big East have two losses or more. Rutgers, Cincinnati, and Louisville have yet to drop their first game. Cincy handed supposed ACC contender Virginia Tech their second loss in as many tries against Big East competition after they dropped a game to then-winless Pitt. Louisville's competition wasn't as stiff, as it faced an 0-3 Southern Miss squad, but the 21-17 result was enough for the Cardinals, who got the win despite a vicious rainstorm on the road.
That leaves them on top of the conference, along with Rutgers, who was off. Although only two conference games have been played thus far, it seems as if the wheat of the Big East has already been separated from the chaff:
Conference play really begins to get underway this upcoming week, with three Big East matchups. Pitt was blown out in its conference opener against Cincinnati, but a pair of wins have them at 2-2 as they face off against Syracuse in the Carrier Dome. UConn bounced back from a loss to a MAC team in Western Michigan two weeks ago by beating Buffalo on Saturday, but they'll face a tougher test in undefeated Rutgers on the road. South Florida and Temple will each hope to be at .500 after their matchup Saturday, with each team riding losing streaks.
