The Pittsburgh Panthers host Indiana University of Pennsylvania in their earliest exhibition game in school history on Friday night. Pitt will be see their first action against opposition since their CBI championship win over the Washington State Cougars in March. It was good for the Panthers to finish that season on a winning note, but they will be hoping for much more this year.
Pitt and IUP will face off for the fourth time since the 2005-06 season. The Panthers won all of those meetings as part of a 26-game winning streak against exhibition competition. The most recent contest between the two schools came on Nov, 4, 2010, when Pitt won 73-56.
Pitt will see a couple familiar faces on Friday, including IUP head coach Joe Lombardi. He served as an assistant under Panthers head coach Jamie Dixon from 2003 to 2006. One of Lombardi's assistants. Kevin Funston, was a student manager for Pitt from 2006-2010.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Peterson Events Center.
