Pitt vs. Notre Dame 2012 results: Panthers fall in 3OT thriller, 29-26

After a wild game, Notre Dame stays undefeated through three overtimes.

Jonathan Daniel

Notre Dame's undefeated season and championship dreams are still intact. The No. 3 team in the nation survived a scare to Pittsburgh, which was able to mount a 17-6 lead but was unable to keep the Irish offense at bay in the fourth quarter and overtime. Everett Golson, after being benched in favor of Tommy Rees at halftime, brought Notre Dame back with two late touchdowns and the clinching QB sneak in overtime.

Box Score Hero: Everett Golson's two fourth quarter touchdowns were shocking, considering his halftime benching and Notre Dame's inability to move the ball through three quarters. His overtime touchdown was the clincher in a wild game.

Rankings Ramifications: Notre Dame stays in the title picture with this squeaker. Pittsburgh goes back to relative obscurity in the Big East.

But Did They Cover? Notre Dame certainly didn't cover the 18.5 points they were laying to Pitt.
