Pitt Vs. St. John's Final Score: Panthers Move On After 73-59 Victory

The Pitt Panthers were able to escape the first round of the 2012 Big East Tournament, defeating the St. John's Red Storm 73-59 at Madison Square Garden Tuesday afternoon.

Led by Ashton Gibbs' 20 points, and a stout defensive effort, the Panthers took control of the game early and never relinquished it. Nasir Robinson also put in a solid performance, scoring 15 points while shooting 7-of-10 from the floor.

The Red Storm struggled mightily from the floor, shooting just 33.3 percent. Their woes could be characterized by the play of forward Gods'gift Achiuwa who made just one of the 10 shots he took in the game. Moe Harkless led all scorers with 25 points, however he received little help from his teammates.

Pitt will now face the Georgetown Hoyas in the second round tomorrow. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
