2012 Big East Tournament: Ashton Gibbs And Nasir Robinson Get First Tourney Win

Somewhat lost in the hoopla of Pitt’s win against St. John’s on Tuesday is that seniors Ashton Gibbs and Nasir Robinson secured their first ever win in the Big East Tournament.

For all of their success over the past three seasons, the Panthers have had a hard time in the tournament in recent years, losing their first game in each of the past three seasons. Pitt has, of course, had byes in those seasons as the result of finishing near the top of the Big East. But for two seniors with 100 career wins, it’s still a bit surprising that the duo was 0-3 in the conference tournament during the careers.

It’s hard to say how that bodes for the team going forward. Pitt was able to win on Tuesday, but for a team comprised of players with no experience winning Big East Tournament games heading into that game, it’s hard to see them rattling off five straight victories.
