The West Virginia Mountaineers got a first round bye in the Big East Tournament and will face another team looking to secure their spot in the NCAA Tournament when they face UConn on Wednesday. But there is an additional storyline in that game, and that's Ryan Boatright, the freshman point guard for the Huskies who was committed to play at West Virginia once upon a time. According to Mike Casazza of the Charleston Daily Mail, Bob Huggins doesn't harbor any hard feelings, but it doesn't look like he is totally pleased with how things turned out.
Huggins called Boatright "very talented" Tuesday and didn't want to talk much about a player he still likes and respects, but he did say that players "don't commit and then say you're going to take other visits. That's not a very strong commitment."
Boatright has become a very important part of the UConn attack this year, becoming their secondary ball handler and third leading scorer. He is an offensive sparkplug who coach Jim Calhoun likes to use when the offense gets bogged down. The Mountaineers will have to contain him, along with the other scoring guards for Connecticut, if they want to advance.
