Ryan Turnley, Matt Stankiewitch, And Joe Madsen All Candidates On Rimington Watchlist

Local schools Pitt, Penn State, and West Virginia all placed candidates on college football's Rimington preseason watch list. The Rimington Award is given annually to the best center in the FBS.

Among the 50 candidates on the preseason list were Pitt's Ryan Turnley, Penn State's Matt Stankiewitch, and West Virginia's Joe Madsen.

Turnley's case is particularly interesting as the Panthers went into spring camp in 2011 with little idea what to do at center. Then head coach Todd Graham even moved one of Pitt's best lineman, Chris Jacobson, to the position temporarily during the spring with serious thought of playing there because of the team's perceived lack of options.

In the end, though, Turnley stepped in and played well.
