Pitt Football Recruiting: Panthers Land Cornerback Anthony Covington

Despite Pitt's loss this weekend to Youngstown State, Panther Digest says cornerback Anthony Covington committed to the Panthers for 2013. Covington will join a talented, deep secondary that the Panthers have built up over the past couple of years.

He's a three-star recruit according to Rivals and reportedly chose Pitt over several quality programs including Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia, and Wake Forest. From his offer list, it's pretty clear that he was interested in ACC schools. With the Panthers joining the conference in 2013, that likely helped land him.

Covington will face quite a bit of competition once he gets to Pitt, so even though it's early, a redshirt doesn't appear to be out of the question. With other cornerbacks K'Waun Williams, Jahmahl Pardner, Lafayette Pitts, and Cullen Christian, among others all expected to be back, playing time won't come easy in 2013.
