The Pittsburgh Penguins open the 2011 NHL schedule Thursday night on the road against the Vancouver Canucks at 10:00 PM EST. The Penguins then take on the Calgary Flames Saturday night at 10:00 PM EST followed with a Sunday matchup with the Edmonton Oilers to complete the Canadian trifecta. Without center Sidney Crosby for the time being, the Penguins will want to get off to a quick start to open their schedule.
The opener against the Canucks will be shown live on CBC and the Versus network, both in HD. The match up with the Flames will be shown in HD on CBC and the game against the Oilers will be shown in HD on ROOT.
The home opener will be on Tuesday, October 11, against the Florida Panthers, at 7:30 PM. After that, they'll have a showdown against the rival Washington Capitals on Thursday, October 13, at 7:00 PM at home.
