Stanley Cup Predictions: Penguins, Sidney Crosby Will Win Cup, EA Simulation Says

The Pittsburgh Penguins will win the Stanley Cup this year! Or so says EA Sports' "NHL 12" video game. A simulation using the game had Sidney Crosby coming back from his concussion issues after 17 games and leading the Penguins into the playoffs and then on to face the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Finals, where the Pens win, 4-2.

Yes, it's just a video game. But EA's simulation did correctly guess that the Blackhawks would win the Stanley Cup in 2010 and that the Canucks and Bruins would play for the Cup in 2011. Obviously, it's clairvoyant. But not everyone sees it that way.

Canucks defenceman Kevin Bieksa simply snorted when told about the game's prediction for this season.

"Who cares," he said.

You will, Kevin. Your fate is to lose. Accept it.

Sports Illustrated also thinks the Penguins will win the Cup, citing the return of Evgeni Malkin as a key reason for their success.
