The Penguins have scored again, this time shorthanded, extending their lead back to two goals over the Vancouver Canucks to make it 3-1 in the second period. Matt Cooke scored his second goal of the night on assists from Jordan Staal and Kris Letang. Letang also recorded his second assist of the night, as he also assisted on the opening goal by James Neal.
The Penguins opened the game by scoring two goals in the first frame, both on power plays. The Canucks then responded in the last minutes of the first period to pull back within a goal. The third Penguins goal came after Pens center Evgeni Malkin was given two minutes in the penalty box for elbowing.
Kris Letang was also penalized at the 11:59 mark, and given two minutes for hooking Henrik Sedin. The Canucks are on that power play now, midway through the second period. The Canucks still trail 3-1 despite out-shooting the Pens and winning more faceoffs.
