Penguins Vs. Hurricanes: Eric Staal Ruins Pens' Comeback Bid

The Penguins scored three goals in the third period to tie the Carolina Hurricanes 3-3, but ultimately lost after the Hurricanes added two more goals.

The Hurricanes got off to an early lead thanks to a goal by Jeff Skinner, then tacked on two Tuomo Ruutu goals in the second period. But Jordan Staal scored two goals early in the third period (the second of which was shorthanded) to cut the lead to one, and Chris Kunitz tied the game with eight minutes remaining with a brilliant top-shelf shot.

Unfortunately for the Penguins, Eric Staal scored three minutes later for the Hurricanes, and Chad LaRose sealed it with another goal a couple minutes after that.

The Penguins out-shot the Hurricanes 40 to 26, but Brent Johnson only registered 21 saves for the Pens.

The Pens face the Colorado Avalanche at home on Tuesday.
